Upon graduating from university, Irshad worked as a legislative aide to Canada’s most feminist member of parliament. They resettled in Canada as political refugees. In the 1970s, Irshad’s family was expelled from Uganda with numerous other Asian families. Through digital technologies, Faith Without Fear is being shown in underground circles throughout the Middle East and North Africa. In-between her books, Irshad created an Emmy-nominated PBS film, Faith Without Fear. Irshad’s previous book is the international bestseller, The Trouble with Islam Today: A Muslim’s Call for Reform in Her Faith. Her latest book, Allah, Liberty and Love, is a guide to reconciling faith and freedom in a world raging with repressive dogmas. She is one of the world’s most recognized authorities on Islam and it’s roles and influence in the world today.Īs a reformist Muslim, Irshad strives to put moral courage into practice.

She attended the University of British Columbia, and received a degree in the history of ideas. She continued to study Islam through both self-directed reading and with Arabic tutors. She was educated at both a secular and an Islamic religious school, but was later expelled from the Islamist school for asking too many questions. In 1972, when Idi Amin exiled the Asians from Uganda, she moved with her family moved to just outside of Vancouver, Canada. Irshad Manji was born in Uganda, the daughter of parents of Egyptian and Gujarati descent.
